For fiction, please email the first three chapters/10,000 words and short synopsis. For non-fiction, please email a concise proposal to curransubmissions@curtisbrown.co.uk

I’m looking for irresistible, immersive non-fiction across history, travel, nature writing, arts, music, fashion, wellbeing, politics and popular culture. I’m keen to hear from academics, experts and journalists who have both unique expertise and the ability to bring their knowledge to a mass audience. I’ve recently enjoyed reading Doppelganger, Lone Wolf, Raising Hare and The Premonitions Bureau. I always want to see punchy feminist writing and thought-provoking revisionist histories. I’m also looking for brilliant memoir writing in all its iterations, from the likes of Free by Lea Ypi to I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy.

Cookbooks and food writing are a core part of my list and I’m always on the lookout for exciting voices and emerging brands who have a clear, clever concept and an engaged audience. I’m also on the hunt for quality food writing to surprise, inform and delight, or that delves into the science behind what and how we eat. I’d love to find the next Kitchen Confidential.

I'm also looking for select fiction with bold, stylish writing; books with unforgettable characters, atmospheric settings and emotional pull; contemporary and historical fiction that explores family and relationships and that tells something about our collective pasts, or how we live now. Some recently read favourites include Instructions For A Heatwave, The Bee Sting, A God in Ruins and The Wedding People. I love novels about time, science, food, art, with a dystopian edge or an off-beat sense of humour. I’d also like to find some stylish, propulsive crime, thriller or mystery stories in the vein of Kala, Wrong Place, Wrong Time or The Family Upstairs.

Across my list, I work in a hands-on way when it comes to editorial and I’m particularly keen to find authors who want to build a career.

I’m afraid I’m not the right person for children's, YA or fantasy fiction.

{"92655":
"700x373":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/700x373","262x140":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/262x140
/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/square","700x700":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/700x700","328x328":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/328x328","139x139":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/139x139","73x73":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/73x73
/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/vertical","600x732":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/600x732","300x360":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/300x360","650x650":"/media/4adf54e4-2301-45f6-adce-de4071b8dcbc/show/650x650"}}}}
